Sources and editorial notes

Game references, community interpretations and this quiz's own model are different kinds of evidence. This page explains what supports each claim—and what has not been independently verified.

Who maintains these explanations?

The Soul Trait Extractor project maintains the questions, scoring implementation and companion guides. This is an independent fan project, not an official UNDERTALE resource or a validated psychological assessment. Editorial corrections can be sent to support@soultraitextractor.com. Include the page, disputed sentence and supporting source; avoid sending personal quiz data.

We distinguish official publisher information, community reference material and site-authored interpretation. An official homepage verifies the identity of the original game, not every lore statement on this site. Community pages are secondary sources and can change. No lore entry below is currently labelled as independently verified from a recorded game session.

Official publisher references

Six color–virtue pairings

Community reference; not independently captured here. The six familiar labels are Patience, Bravery, Integrity, Perseverance, Kindness and Justice. The community's Ball Game reference and SOUL reference describe the relevant associations. Our everyday-behavior definitions are an adaptation, not quotations from the game.

Red and Determination

Fan interpretation. This quiz uses Determination as its red dimension. That convention should not be presented as an equally explicit seventh color label. Compare the community SOUL discussion; the Determination reference provides additional story context. The quiz's decision is explained in the Determination guide.

Fallen humans and associated equipment

Community reference. The Eight Humans reference collects associations with equipment and earlier humans. Equipment associations do not establish a complete personality or biography; those inferences should stay separate.

SOULs and the barrier

Community reference. See the Barrier reference. Plot explanations are not inputs to this quiz's scoring model. The lore guide distinguishes the story context from our reflective use of the traits.

Battle modes and visual mechanics

Community reference. The Attack Types and Photoshop Flowey references describe combat mechanics. A battle control scheme is not evidence of a player's personality; our examples are interpretive commentary.

Original trait definitions and exercises

Site-authored interpretation. The seven guides translate the labels into everyday tensions, counterexamples and reflection exercises. Those exercises are not canon, diagnostic advice, or findings from a user study. Read them as prompts and disregard any description that does not fit your experience.

Original scoring model

Site-authored model. Twenty-eight weighted questions, eight reversed statements, seven independent normalized scores and a fixed tie order generate the result. The 42 ordered primary/secondary combinations are editorial readings, not empirically validated personality types. Reproduce a worked calculation and compare synthetic examples.

Corrections and revision history

  • September 18, 2026: rewrote the seven guides around their questions and reproducible scoring examples, clarified tied results, and simplified the reading paths. Checked the community Ball Game, attack-type and Determination references for the revised examples. This was a source review, not a recorded playthrough. Questions and weights are unchanged.
  • September 4, 2026: source-level labels distinguish community references, fan interpretation and the site's model.
  • September 5, 2026: published this source directory, reproducible result examples and distinct trait exercises. The question set and scoring weights have not changed.

To upgrade a claim to directly verified game evidence, the editorial record should identify a lawful game copy, platform/version, route, scene, trigger and an accurately recorded observation. A community citation alone does not satisfy that standard. Rights questions and correction requests are welcome through the contact page.
